Wrist monitors are convenient and cheap, but they are far more sensitive to position: if the wrist is not exactly at heart level, the reading drifts.   • Connectivity and proprietary apps. These often require creating an account and uploading your health data to a server. Decide whether that is what you want before you agree to it.

How often should it be checked?

Monitors drift out of calibration over time and after knocks. The usual advice is to have it checked roughly every two years, and sooner if it has been dropped or you start seeing consistently odd figures.
